Waimate Community Vehicle Trust

Providing affordable, reliable transport for the people of the Waimate District with an emphasis on ease of access to the aged and infirm.

While the car service is used predominantly by the aged, the trust carries and encourages use by all residents and visitors, regardless of age.

Started in 1980 the first community vehicle was a van with wheelchair hoist and was operated by Waimate Lions Club.

In 1986 the Waimate Community Vehicle Trust formed and became a Charitable Trust. In October 1999 the administration of the trust passed from the Waimate Lions Club to a community based trust consisting of Community and Service Club Trustees.

The need for a more economical option for a growing passenger service saw the purchase of the first car in 2003. Due to increased demand, 2006 saw the trust retain two cars to operate its day to day operation.

All drivers and trustees are volunteers.
